Dermot is a founding director of Ascon Africa. He has more than 40 years experience in the construction industry from supervision of construction projects to senior position in a major international consulting firm. After a short stint with the Ministry of Roads in Zimbabwe he enrolled at the University of Cape Town from where he graduated with a BSc degree in Civil Engineering in 1976. After graduating he spent a year doing post-graduate research before joining the consulting firm Associated Consultants where he specialised in the management of industrial and commercial projects. In 1982 he was appointed Associate and second-in-charge of the firm and responsible for a wide range of projects throughout Zimbabwe. When Associated Consultants amalgamated with the worldwide Scott Wilson firm to form Scott Wilson Zimbabwe in1983 he was appointed associate of the new entity and became partner in 1986. He then held several senior positions within the Scott Wilson Group culminating in him being appointed CEO of Scott Wilson Africa and a director of Scott Wilson International Division in 1999. In 2006 he was part of the management buy-out of Scott Wilson Zimbabwe which subsequently changed its name to Ascon Africa. |
Newton Madanhi CEO (Pr Eng, Bsc Eng (Hons.), MZIE, CEng, MSAICE)

Newton is a founding director of Ascon Africa. He has more than 30 years experience in the construction industry. His university degree programme was preceded by foure years xposure to construction sites on roads, bridges and dams which led to a good grounding on practical construction issues. During the 18 years with the Scott Wilson Group he has been exposed to multidisciplinary projects including civil infrastructure, water supply and sanitation and building structures on a diverse compliment of projects. Four years spent full time in Malawi were particularly useful in nurturing management, control, and delivery of highway, road and bridges projects. He has worked with international funding organisations including EU (European Union), WB (World Bank), USAID, DFID and the ADB (African Development Bank). |
Farai Bernard Chifetete Director Principal Consulting Mining Engineer (BSc (Hons.), ACSM, MZIE, MASME)

Farai has over 26 years mining experience gained at various mining sites in Zimbabwe. He has experience in surface and underground mining of base and precious metals. He has had hands on experience in the development of several gold projects into viable productive operations. His management experience ranges from onsite management, development and operations, to senior corporate positions at head office for a major mining organization. He has been an independent mining consultant since 1998 and his expertise includes, project management, mine valuation, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, mine planning and design, and due diligence.Farai is a graduate from the Camborne School of Mines (Exeter University) with a BSc(Hons) in Mining Engineering and a Diploma of the Camborne School of Mines (ACSM). |
Luke Selemani Consulting Civil Engineer (BSc (Hons), MZIE)

Luke has over 19 years experience in building, infrastructure development, and road works. The experience involves design, planning, project management and supervision of construction works. He has been a resident engineer on a number of residential and industrial infrastructure projects and has carried out design and detailing work on commercial and industrial buildings as well as roads and earthworks. His main area of expertise is contract documentation, tendering, contract administration, and project management. |
Jack Fox Consulting Electrical Engineer (NTC I, II, III; AZIE, ASAIEE)

Jack is the longest serving member of the firm. He graduated with a National Technical Diploma from the then Salisbury Polytechnic in 1949. He is an Associate member of both the South African Institution of Electrical Engineers and the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers. Jack has developed a thorough grounding and understanding of the requirements of power supply and distribution in the built environment. He has gained experience on Electrical Installations in industrial complexes, ranging from 33kV to 400 KV switchgear, lighting and small power supplies, fire detection and alarm systems, security alarm systems , telephone installations and public address systems. He has worked closely with experienced design engineers to gain a requisite understanding of mechanical plant, including air conditioning, ventilation, pump, and conveyor systems. |
Mike T. Gumbo Senior Consulting Geologist (BSc (Hons.), MIMM)

Mike graduated from the University of Wales (Cardiff) in Mining Geology. He has over 25 years of experience in exploration lease acquisition, exploration program management, mineral resource evaluation, ore-body modelling, mine and prospect valuation, mineral project risk analysis, and mine feasibility appraisal on exploration projects and operating base and precious metal mines in Zimbabwe. Mike is well versed with the various Canadian rules, policies and guidelines with respect to the mining industry such as “Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects” (“National Instrument 43-101”), “the Standards and Guidelines for Valuation of Mineral Properties” (“CIMVAL”), and “ CIM Definition Standards on the mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves” (“CIMM RMR”). He is also familiar with the “South African Code fro Reporting of Mineral Resources and Reserves” (the “SAMREC Code”) as well as the Australian “Code and Guidelines for the Technical Assessment and/or Valuation of Mineral and Petroleum Assets and Mineral and Petroleum Securities for Independent Expert Reports” (the “Valmin Code”). |

Mufaro Jarawaza (Mrs.) is an Environmental Scientist and a member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management who has vast experience in water and waste water management. She has over 15 years experience in carrying out Environmental Site Assessment, Environmental Permitting, Environmental Regulatory Support, Environmental Impact Assessments as well as development of Environmental Management Plans. |
Charles Tendai Mhindu Consulting Geologist (BSc (Hons), MSc, MIMM)

Charles graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Geology (1990) and an MSc in Mineral Exploration (1995) from the University of Zimbabwe. He gained experience in exploration and mine geologist roles at various base and precious metal mines in Zimbabwe. This was followed by 9 years experience as independent consulting geologist covering a wide range of commodities in many geological settings. He has been directly involved in the evaluation of a number of advanced mineral projects and operating mines including ore reserve audits, economic valuation and due diligence. His areas of expertise include mine valuation, scoping studies and preliminary valuation of mineral projects, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, due diligence and ore reserve audits. Washington is a graduate of the University of Zimbabwe. He holds post-graduate diplomas in Personnel Management and Public Relations. He has thirteen years experience as a human resource practitioner in the private and public sectors. He has given expert advice in labour disputes as an officer in the Labour Ministry in Zimbabwe. He has worked in the Local Government Ministry for three years and experience gained in community consultation has been useful in the development of a number of mine closure plans. |
